Educational requirements

Minimum 3 years of technical-scientific studies at an approved university or academy.

Requirements to working experience

A minimum of seven years of relevant working experience is required. Relevant experience implies work with occupational hygiene related problems within private or public activities (in at least 50 % of a full-time position). If the candidate has a higher university degree, the requirement to practical experience may be reduced with up to 2 years.

Ethical rules

In order to achieve certification as occupational hygienist it is required that the candidate is obliged to work in accordance with our ethical guidelines for occupational hygienists, according to the Norwegian Occupational Hygiene Association- Code of Ethics. The NYS board may withdraw the certification based on violation of the ethical guidelines.

Requirements to documented knowledge within occupational hygiene topics

Four written examns must be taken . The scope of the curriculum shall correspond to one year of full-time studies, 60 credits.

• General occupational hygiene
• Chemical working environment factors
• Physical working environment factors
• Biologichal working environment factors

Presentation of two written reports

Final oral exam

The applicant must in the preceding five-year period in average have been employed in at least 50% of a full-time position within the field of occupational hygiene. e.

Requiremetnts to document occupational hygiene knowledge

Applicant must in the same period have achieved 60 occupational hygiene subject units (YF) according to the guidelines specified below :

• Courses- and conferences ( min 20 – max 50 YF)

• Publication, posters, speech on professional conferences, arrangement of courses, etc.

  (max 30 YF)
• Work in relevant boards and fora (max 10) YF)
